VISIONARY, REFINED, NORDIC
What does the brand’s Scandinavian heritage mean to you?
Kinnasand stands for Nordic design: we come from Sweden; we speak a typical Scandinavian language. And this doesn’t just apply to our collections. For me, the Scandinavian element also stands for a clear approach in dealing with ideas, people and the things that surround us. That is why Nordic design is not just our heritage – it’s also our future.
What defines a Kinnasand product?
You can feel the high quality of our textiles and carpets at the very first touch. The special techniques we use to transform materials into characters. The choice of colours and patterns. Fabrics and carpets by Kinnasand are products that appeal to the senses.
SHOW THE UNEXPECTED YET PERFECT
What fascinates you about working with materials?
In Europe, fabrics are still produced in excellent quality. This art must be preserved at all costs. Working with unique raw materials is something that still greatly inspires me. Discovering their essence. Exploring the wealth of creative possibilities they hold. Making the material come alive with design, technology and colour – these are the things that intrigue me.

NO SAME SAME
How do you go about developing a collection?
The headline of each new collection could read: show the unexpected. This goes way beyond the design. It’s all about learning, really, carrying out research and surprising people. In the end, we need to recombine things again and again within our universe of possibilities to make materials and technology interact in a unique way. By weaving cotton with metal thread, for example, concealing linen with foil or fitting softly flowing material with a thin polyurethane layer to give it a paper-like feel. This is what Kinnasand is about.
